Anchor & Man

#35 - Anchor

An anchor is a large and heavy piece of metal, in an “anchor” shape — see the picture if you’re not familiar with the shape. It’s a very specific cross like shape, with the open bottom of an ‘o” shape underneath it, and often something at the top in a circular shape for which to tie a heavy rope through. An anchor, if you aren’t familiar with it, is what stops a boat and prevents it from moving around or drifting freely on open water. When the Navigator and Captain of the ship get to their destination, if a dock is not available, they throw an anchor overboard into the water. It’s weight combined with it’s speed of water entry sinks the anchor into the mud below the water, and the ship is prevented from blowing off course. To some, the anchor can symbolize being trapped— that the boat can no longer move freely, and that it is quite literally stuck in one place, but really, the anchor is symbolic of a stable and sturdy path, that you will not blow off of unless something truly sensational happens (like a large storm, perhaps).

As a card reading, the anchor symbolizes a good base or home— that you are locked in to the correct job or career path, or that you are stable in your financial or love life. You have picked your path and chosen it wisely and you will not be deterred from this path for any reason, barring really serious or unexpected changes or events. You should really dedicate yourself to this plan, invest money in it if you haven’t already, perhaps buy an engagement ring for your girlfriend, do whatever you can to make sure that you stay on this course and that it becomes permanent. The anchor symbolizes security and setting down. Perhaps you are starting a family, maybe you’re buying a new home. Maybe you have finally moved across the country— whatever it is, this change is permanent, and you have set your anchor down and will be here for awhile, you might as well do whatever you can do to make it the best situation possible. The anchor can refer to health stability, and also the parts of the body that need to be and keep us the most stable, like our feet, pelvis, and core. It can also symbolize your dental hygiene, as the early Greek word for anchor was “teeth”. It can also refer to or represent the colors of dark blue and navy blue.

In popular culture, anchors are often used in motivational art and home decor. Anchors are synonymous with coast living and beach life, and often used to decorate homes in places like Cape Cod or Nantucket. What’s ironic (or perhaps not) is that these are often wealthy and affluent families with wealth going back for generations of family members and many years, so these people are well anchored in more ways than one. The anchor is also the symbol of sorority Delta Gamma who adopted it in 1877, as a symbol for “hope” - their sorority is built on the basis of “doing good” in the community and to one another (and also in your own life). Historically, anchors date back to the bronze age and were first used often by the Greeks, who are well known for being exceptional ship captains. In our communities and neighborhoods, the people who give us our daily news and report happenings to everyone are called “anchorman” . In competitions, the last person in a relay race is called the “anchor leg”, because of their ability to bring success and their tried and true performances, time in and time out. Because anchors are so popular in decoration and leisure, anchor is also the name of a company that produces tableware, and a brewery.

#28 - Man

The man card pictures a man wearing a suit standing upright, and references that which is male, masculine, being born of the men’s gender, and having the man’s strengths. This card could indicate a man you know, such as your father, brother, husband, grandfather, boss, co-worker, son, or lover. It could be an ex-boyfriend or ex-lover as well. It could symbolize or personify the qualities typically associated with men, like strength, logic, locational, spatial, and directional ability. Men are traditionally seen as being poor at showing emotion but strong in body and mind. They can typically run faster and lift heavier amounts of weight than their female counterparts. Traditional households will have the man do the “masculine” tasks like killing bugs, taking out garbage, fixing things that are broken, hammering or hanging pictures, although these gender roles are changing in society certainly. The man card may still be referencing these traditional male stereotypes, or it may be reminding you that a little more strength is necessary in your personal life.

The color often associated with the man card is dark blue. Health wise, this card could be speaking to the anatomy of men that females do not have, penises, testes, the groin area, and the prostrate.

The man card typically indicates that something regarding a man important in our life will happen very soon. It could be a birth or death of a significant male. It could be a fight or proposal from a significant male. It could be news from a man or some kind of revelation about the man. You may learn news about the man, such as he is in love with you, or cheating on you.

Anchor + Man

Firstly, when the anchor and man cards are combined, there is a serious dark blue color component, as both cards refer to this color. This is a very powerful combination as both cards have qualities of stability and strength. When these two cards are read together it typically means that there is a faithful, stable, and hard-working man in your life, or about to enter your life.

Numerology

The anchor is represented by the number 35, and the Man is represented by the number 28. When we add these numbers together, 35 + 28 = 63 . Because sixty-three is not a single digit number, we must then add the digits of 63 together, and we get 6 + 3 = 9

The Number 9

The Number 9 — The number 9 can be symbolic of the 9th month, year, day, or week. It also may refer to the letter I, the 9th letter. It can indicate the 9th hour or 9th minute as well. As children, 9 is proven to be a magical number in schools and summer camps when we learn math. It is number that everyone bragged about learning multiplication tables on their fingers, or with a deck of cards, and 9 always comes through for the mathematical win. You can multiply 9 by any number, get a result, add that result number’s digits together, and the resulting answer is always a 9. It’s a favorite number of magicians and tv tricksters to guess what number you’re thinking. Do you know what your own personal magic numbers are? Interestingly, in society, we use the number 9 sometimes to refer to multiple chances at life— such as a cat’s “9 lives”. Just like a cat gets another chance at life, so does a replanted flower, or re-soiled seed. It’s up to you to not waste your chance at another life, a recovery from an illness, a near-death experience, or a new love. Similarly, a “cat-o-9-tails” can be a sign of punishment, or atonement, and perhaps eventually a second chance. To be on “cloud 9” is also a very good thing in the American culture. 9 is considered a good number in Chinese culture because it sounds similar to the word for “long lasting.” In Greek culture, there are 9 Muses who are responsible for bringing all of the good things into the world, like art, dance, and poetry. You should take advantage of it as the flower takes advantage of the soil and the water we bring them in order to grow as tall and as beautiful as possible.

Combined with the anchor and man cards, the 9 can symbolize the level of strength and faithfulness from the man you have come to know, or will soon meet. He may not be a perfect 10 but he will be exactly what you need, good in every way, faithful, and true. This may also indicate the timeline when your strong man may arrive, meet you, or propose, if you are already with this man. It may be someone who comes into your life as a mentor or coach, as well.

Today's Action Steps:

Allow yourself to be vulnerable and put your faith and trust into this man that you either already know or will soon meet. He may be a teacher, a coach, a boss, or some kind of romantic partner, but you have been strong yourself and untrusting up until this point. It is time to allow yourself to admit that you don’t have to be strong and sensible all of the time and allow this man to be strong for you. Pay attention to new men who come into your life and give them each a chance to impress you.

Affirmation

“I will allow myself to appreciate a softer side of myself, a more vulnerable side. I appreciate this new strong man in my life, or man who has been faithful to me from the beginning, and will begin to open up in ways that I never have before so that I can reap the true benefits of this relationship.” Repeat this affirmation 2-3 times today.
